5 REASONS WHY YOU FEEL UNHAPPY WHEN YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED

Unemployment depression is a real thing, and usually hits a person when they have been unemployed for several months (at least two). This feeling is common among unemployed people, and is considered normal, and even healthy as it can be a reason to push the unemployed person to find a new job. In this article, we will talk about 5 reasons why you feel unhappy when you are unemployed.

1- YOU ARE NOT ACHIEVING ANYTHING

This is the most common reason why people feel unhappy when they are unemployed. Feeling that you are not achieving anything, such as not making money to contribute to the household’s expenses, can make you feel useless. While this feeling is usually exaggerated in many people, it is present in most cases. Instead of sitting and pitying yourself, you can create some DIY tasks around the house to keep yourself busy and create something out of nothing.

2- YOU FEEL LIKE A BURDEN TO OTHERS

When you are short on money, you could live from the money of someone else, whether it is your parents, your partner, or someone from outside of your family. The feeling of being a burden is harmful to your health and your brain as it can lead to anxiety. Instead of asking others for money, try to do some freelance basis project, or to cut costs, so you are only spending money where it is essential.

3- YOU COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS

When other people are scoring some successes, you could catch yourself wanting to be like them. In case you don’t know, comparing yourself to others is not a good habit you’d want to adopt. It can lead to underestimating yourself and believing the idea that others are better than you. Instead think of all the good things you have, and how these will help you improve your future and your career.

4- YOU FEEL LONELY

When you’re home alone because all your family members and friends are at work, you could feel left out and alone. Loneliness affects us in many negative ways. It can make us less sociable, and more introverted, not wanting to even go out and meet new people. You could create a new comfort zone that consists of only you. Instead, try to make most of the time you spend alone to develop yourself and your skills and increase your chances of landing a job in the near future.

5- YOU ARE UNABLE TO BUY AND DO CERTAIN THINGS

The lack of money can make you reconsider your purchasing decisions. Do I need that new TV when I am not making money? The answer should be no in most cases. However, if you ask yourself, “do I need to eat out when I am not making money?” you could feel like you are giving up on your pleasures because you are unemployed. Unemployment changes our lives and makes us feel like totally new people.
